On Friday the 18th of March members of the Antiquarian Society met at Capel Heol Awst, Carmarthen for the annual Welsh lecture. Long standing member Arfon Rees introduced John Gwilym Jones a former Archdruid of Wales who was the guest speaker for the evening. In his introduction Arfon Rees gave a detailed portrait of John Gwilym Jones and his family connections at Parc Nest, Newecastle Emlyn.

The Speaker was one of three Brothers who are all renowned for their major contributions to the cultural and religious aspects of Welsh life. Those present were treated to a fascinating account of Parc Nest especially the Mediaeval connections and the fact that it was a former Deer Park and Hunting Lodge. The Speaker was thanked by Arfon Rees who also paid tribute to the translator, Catrin Howells from Trywydd.

The next meeting will be held at 2pm on Saturday the 16th of April at Capel Newydd, Llandeilo. This will be the Annual General Meeting of The Antiquarian Society and will be followed by a lecture by the former Warden of Llandovery College and President of The National Library of Wales, Dr. Brinley Jones. The subject will be Sir John Williams, the founder of The National Library. All are welcome and for further information please contact Roy Davies at 01558 824017.
