The Carmarthenshire Antiquary
Notes for Contributors
Authors wishing to submit articles are asked
to provide material as follows:
Conventions of the Antiquary follow the guidelines
for spelling, punctuation and capitalization etc. given in the
Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors (and where appropriate
Hart's Rules for Compositors and Readers at the OUP). Authors
are asked to familiarise themselves with these before submission.
A typescript copy of the article, in single column format, marked
up with suggested locations of figures (if any) in red ink,
should have sufficiently broad margins and interline spacing
to allow editorial mark-up. The format for headings (after the
title) is first sub-heading CAPITAL letters, then Italic upper
and lower case for the next level. We discourage a more complex
hierarchy than these two. References should be at the end of
the article numbered sequentially. Figures and plates should
be numbered sequentially thus Fig. 1, Fig 2 ... (not Plate 1).
The Editor welcomes submission of articles
on disk in addition to the typescript. The article should be
single column and formatting should be kept to a minimum. Do
not try to set the article out in the printed Antiquary layout
of double-columns, as conversion from your word processor to
the printer's software can be troublesome. Because of the proliferation
of file formats and dangers of macro viruses we ask that articles
be submitted in RTF (rich text format). All word processors
include this file format (See under the 'Save as' and 'Save
type as' in the menu options of your word processor). RTF will
handle both complex tables and endnotes.
Line art should be drawn to the same x/y proportions
as the Antiquary's crown quarto format (7.5 x 10 inches). We
do not encourage authors to submit digital scans of their illustrations,
but prefer original artwork. Scanning for publication is a complex
and skilled process. The Editor reserves the right to reject
illustrations that do not meet the high standards needed. If
pre-scanned material originates from a professional bureau or
someone skilled in handling scans for publication, then halftones
should be at 150dpi and scaled to the published size (76mm wide
for single column and 158mm wide for double column or full page
illustrations) in uncompressed jpg format.
Authors will be provided with one set of proofs
and are asked to avoid making any unnecessary changes, other
than literal or typing errors. We reserve the right to charge
authors for any changes post submission if the printers pass
on such charges.
Upon publication authors will receive 10 offprints.
Any additional offprints must be negotiated for at the time
the article is submitted, and these will have to be paid for
separately by the author.
Those wishing to submit articles are urged
to contact the Editor at an early date to discuss the appropriateness,
length, number and type of illustrations etc.
